The Seradin

Fate is a member of the race known as Seradin, a mostly volatile and spiteful race bent on the domination and destruction of the entire galaxy. Their overpowering desire to dominate stems from a long history of enslavement by other races. Over time, they had been bought and sold by various species until they staged an uprising on a highly advanced civilization, the Keepers. Taking over their Keeper’s world and calling it their own, they began to learn about and use their technology to build a massive fleet before setting off to take over the universe.

Led by hate and anger, time and again they ravaged the nearby planets of their resources, killing any who dared to stand in their way. But a select few of the Seradin people started to realize the error of ways, and secretly began raising their children with different values: to understand the importance of other species and their philosophies; that dictating over these peoples is wrong.

This movement did not sit well with High Chancellor Nova, who demanded its eradication. Instead, this lead to a rebellion of sorts, and for several years their pseudo-home planet was devastated by war.  Finally, the rebels escaped, taking a large portion of their people with them. They have been in hiding ever since.

The Keepers

The Keepers are the caretakers of the galaxy, tasked with creating life using the so-called “weapon” to terraform lifeless planets to life and allow them to evolve.

Each galaxy is appointed a group of Keepers who take the lifeless planets at optimal distances from stars and convert them into life-sustaining habitats. Many planets raised species capable of intelligence and self awareness, which grew eventually to become starfarers with their own goals and aspirations. The Keepers were to keep those species on track and steer them away from doing harm to the galaxy.  But within the Milky Way, the most unlikely of species took power over the Keepers, for their compassion brought opportunity.

The Seradin originally were a species bought and sold as a whole to various governments and species, mainly as slave to a people or for commerce. Over time, the Seradin people were broken into servitude, almost believing to be their place in the universe. When the Keepers found out about the Seradin’s mistreatment, they took them on as their responsibility, removing them from slavery and attempting to nurture them back to health. But the Seradin saw this act of kindness differently; their years of servitude have made them violent and mistrusting, methodical thinkers and devious plotters. When they saw their chance to take back their freedom, they snatched it, and the Keepers lost all control.

They fled from the Seradin on a lone ship. They lived, floating hidden in an asteroid field, until the ship would no longer sustain them. Then, the last of the Keepers launched themselves into space with their escape pods and shuttles, and fled to find a new world to retreat to.

Seradin Prime

Once home to the great Keepers of the Milky Way Galaxy, Seradin Prime was previously called Serenity. The Planet was originally entirely water, until the Keepers were charged with the task of caring for this particular galaxy. The Keepers developed large floating cities, capable of sustaining a large population. It was in these cities that they created all the required technology to begin inhabiting this galaxy with whatever may grow on the multitude of planets.

The planet’s core was built by the Keepers into a massive energy source. They captured a dwarf sun and encased it in a very strong and valuable barrier, which could absorb the burning sun’s heat and adapt it into usable energy. The sun was sunken to the heart of the planet, and the oceans became as its heat sink. This is why the Oceans on Seradin prime are so warm. The Planet’s core was the energy source that would allow the use of the LSP or Life Stimulation Pattern, the device used to spread life throughout the galaxy.

After the Seradin uprising, they renamed the planet Seradin Prime, and began to decipher the Keeper’s technology to adapt it as their own. This once-shining monument to life is now an example of the corruption that lies within power.

Many of the city’s basic functions are aimed at maintaining the quality of life of all galactic inhabitants, almost as a mother for all life on the planet. The simple luxuries, however, are provided. But the more powerful technologies still remain a mystery to most, and the Seradin have been striving for years to unlock their secrets and purposes. Since none know the origins of the Keepers, nor their overall purpose in the universe, the Seradin are hard-pressed to utilize their technology, or even decode their language.

As the Seradin marauded across the universe, the planet awaits the return of its true heirs to restore balance back within the galaxy.

Floating Rock Research Facility

Once a research center designed for the study of an unexplainably volatile asteroid field, the Floating Rock Facility acquired its name from its lack of stability. The bizarre anomalies being researched made this station almost inoperable 90% of the time. Many scientists would conduct their work in space suits, as much of the time the facility’s equipment would shut down, leaving them without life support. Finally, it was concluded that research was too difficult to perform in this environment, and the Floating Rock was abandoned. Much of the equipment and precious commodities were left behind.

This left the station as a hotspot for salvage teams, though most were not be prepared for the perils that ensued; many died trying to attain its secrets and treasures. Because of the dangers and unlikelihood of being raided, Fate used to stash a vital part of the LSP for safe keeping.

Seradin Government

After the fall of the Keepers, Seradin Prime elected a council of Officials who had helped lead them to their victory over their caretakers. The leader of the uprising, Fate’s father, Nova, was appointed High Chancellor, a dictator over the Seradin. This system of government had the elected assembly reporting directly to the Chancellor. Their opinions would help determine his decision, but the process was time-consuming.

Frustrated by the slow process of deliberation, the Chancellor yearned for complete, totalitarian leadership over their system of government. But despite his ability and influence, his attempts would not yield the results he desired. So, in the shadows, he plotted.

The Seradin Council had funded and led much research into the Keeper technology that was responsible for the current easy lifestyle their people enjoyed, through the Keeper’s Carta program, instilled across the planet in every city. Furthermore, the council had led many efforts to unlock the secrets of the Keepers; most had been to no avail. It was then decided to develop their own technologies based on what they had already learned.

The Seradin accumulated a massive military to patrol their space and keep them from ever being enslaved again.  Armed with Keeper technology, they developed weapons beyond anything the galaxy had seen. Many Seradin in the council were convicted to the belief that it was their destiny to conquer any planet or species that had previously enslaved their people. This grudge led to the Seradin war effort, and the species blazed a path of destruction throughout the galaxy.

All the while, the Chancellor used the war as a distraction, so he could elevate his power behind the scenes and make his move...

Seradin Resistance (Gaia's Underground Revolution on Seradin Prime)

After the uprising and so-called liberation of the Seradin, Gaia, mother to Fate, was shown the truth of Keeper’s intentions: to safeguard the Seradin People and guide them to their own freedom. But her husband, Nova, did not believe her, and was steadfast in his commitment to free his people through violent revolution and get vengeance on all who had enslaved them. Gaia was forced to abandon her husband and her only daughter and go into hiding with her son, Fate.

Once the dust had settled, and Nova came to power as the High Chancellor, Gaia was forced to begin the rebellion to put a stop to her husband’s tyranny. But she was alone and needed allies to make her revolt happen. Gaia confided in several close friends, who eventually helped her begin the underground movement. Scrags, Sarif, and Melancin, three of her closest friends, helped her gain moral support of many oppressed Seradin, convincing many that the turn against the Keepers was a mistake.

Thus, the Seradin Resistance was born. But their numbers were small, and their support network was scarce. In order to avoid detection, they was split into cells, operating independently from each other each led by one of the four founders. These cells rarely communicated, and each had its own base of operations. After the Resistance gained the attention of the Seradin Senate, assassins were dispatched to hunt the leaders down.  Melancin was the first to be persecuted. His cell nearly fell apart, until his younger brother stepped up t take his place and lead several victories against the Senate.

Slowly, the Resistance gained a foothold, and dug into the world, and several nearby planets. But the free-living and accommodating planet of Seradin Prime provided a luxurious lifestyle the Seradin, and many were disgusted by the rebellion; it posed a threat to their lavish existence supported by the planet’s operational systems, given whatever they desired.

The Resistance has fought for years, and had come to a stalemate until others within the galaxy turned against the Seradin and the Chancellor. They began their own rebellion, with the help of Gaia's son, Fate.

The Seradin Resistance had raised their children as warriors and spies, training them to be both soldiers and intellectuals. Fate was one of these children, and as he grew he was taught the truth of the Keepers and his father’s Seradin uprising. Eventually, he was assigned the task of infiltrating Seradin Prime to gather technology and information for the Resistance.

Galactic Senate

Prior to the Seradin’s hostile takeover, the main governing body in the universe was the Galactic Senate, comprised of over two thousand species and spearheaded by an elected assembly with representatives from each race.  Unaware of the Keeper’s existence on the far edge of the galaxy, the Senate went on, trading and negotiating, arguing and bickering, for many centuries. The old institution had been revamped so many times that the galaxy was hard-pressed to ever get a straight answer.

But the Galactic Senate still seemed to maintain some kind of order throughout the galaxy, and, for most part, this was good enough. The Galactic Senate was by no means a military unit, nor did they even employ a military, although they did retain civil servants and a police force. This led to the creation of the Galactic Freelance Police, a group of peacekeepers that any species could join to assist with keeping law and order in the galaxy.

With the numerous races and resources throughout the Milky Way to maintain, the Galatic Senate also instated a Galactic Trade Commission, led by Mistress Commeroy. It was the Senate’s decree that the Trade Commission tax goods to pay for expenses incurred by the GFP and running the Senate as a whole.

This set-up was generally accepted by all species within the Senate’s grasp, and had become a solid foundation for the preservation of order. But with the rise of the Seradin, the Senate’s power started to fragment, and, with it, their ability to keep the peace.

Galactic Freelance Police

Instated by the Galactic Senate and headed by the mysterious Mr. P, the Galactic Freelance Police consists of an array of all species within the Senate.   This policy of diversity was considered necessary to ensure equality in the policing system.  Furthermore, a basis for law that took into consideration cultural differences and customs would be a more difficult task if left in the hands of a single race. So the GFP opened its doors to any and all species who wished to do their part to keep their culture alive while keeping the galaxy safe.

This was wildly regarded as a fantastic idea by all manner of spacefaring lifeforms, and the GFP soon became a force to be reckoned with. But their limiting polices guaranteed that they could never amass as an army, which this meant that they did not stand a chance against the sudden turmoil that would befall the universe with the rise of the Seradin Fleet.

Put in a sticky predicament, the GFP was forced to bow to Seradin dictatorship and to ally with the Seradin in order to keep peace. But in the inner workings of the GFP, Mr. P took the necessary steps to make sure that the GFP remain the peacekeepers.  And on the sidelines, Mr. P worked to assist the rebellion in any way he could.

But balancing law with subterfuge was a difficult task; keeping the real enemy at bay while supplying the galaxy with the power to defend itself was no laughing matter. Mr. P had put his life on the line to help the rebellion and keep the GFP alive. This meant making hard decisions to keep up posture with the Seradin people. But the truth always comes out, and the GFP could not hide forever.

Galactic Trade Commission

The Galactic Trade Commission was put in place to allow free distribution of all wares and resources, despite the many cultures and currencies that reside within the jurisdiction of the Galactic Senate. Much of the commerce in the galaxy is centered around the Central Commerce Station, or CCS. This massive space station acts as a galactic hub for all trade and commerce throughout the local clusters, and offers free services for shipping and routing all goods and services to the outlying planets.

The Galactic Trade Commission, or GTC, was originally instituted to act as a free broker system between cultures, but has recently become the galactic standard for all trade and currency. Most recently, they have created a transferable credit that allows for one standard currency, which can easily translate into any other currency at the appropriate exchange rate.

This new currency helped regulate and simplify legal matters between trading partners and set up a foundation for all trade agreements. A seemly and almost automated system was put in place for any species to enter into bidding and buys of almost anything imaginable.

The GTC was funded, and is now led, by Mistress Commeroy, an active trader and seat holder in the Galactic Senate. Her age and wisdom allow her to keep an open mind in debates between trade disputers, and she resolves many issues that arise within the automated systems.

After the CCS and GTC were instated, a calm balance fell throughout the galaxy, allowing for easy access of resources for planets and civilizations hoping to expand and advance. This helped push the Galaxy to a new era of communication and understanding among all sentient, spacefaring species.

But with the rise of the Seradin, with their technological marvels and impressive war fleet, the CCS and GTC fell victim to their oppression and is slowly crumbling. Now, Mistress Commeroy is seeking aid from the rebellion and the Galactic Senate...

Central Commerce Station (The CCS)

The CCS contains an almost fully automated system built to suit the various species and governments in the galaxy. Each species has their own environment and section of the space station. To achieve this, the station was constructed modularly, so as to add new parts to the station with relative ease. This modular system leaves much to be desired as it comes to looks, but it gets the job done effectively.

Within each species’ section, anything they have to offer from their homeworlds and tradepeople can be found and bartered for. The central interface allows a user to browse all goods and services from any of the stations segments and purchase or trade amongst these commodities freely. Pick-up and delivery is all conducted through each species’ specific region within the station.

With the capability to get what you need, when you need it, and the ability to barter rather than using cash, the CCS became a colossal hub for the Galaxy. Soon, the galaxy became reliant on its services.

Much of the commerce on the station is taxed a small fee to allow for the operation and expansion of the station. There are also fees imposed on sellers for space used, and upgrades and maintenance of each section. As many species require specific environmental conditions, this also has to be included in the lease or rental agreement for the space acquired.

Although each species’ government is taxed and provided with free space on the center of the station, any freelancer may purchase their own space in the market rings. This allows for entrepreneurs and tradespeople to sell their wares within the largest network of commerce ever known. This lucrative opportunity has also attracted some shady criminal elements into the CCS, but many look past this for the sheer opportunities that lye within.

But the threat of the Seradin Fleet to the Trade Hub and the CCS has recently caused a decline in commerce within the station. Many flee in the fear that the CCS will be a prime target during the war, and this fear is leading to a full-out recession that might very well destroy the galaxy on its own...

The Rebellion (led by Lissan Graves)

After Lissan’s escape from Seradin Prime and her time as a bounty hunter, she became increasingly aware of the malice and torment that the Seradin people have recently been inflicting upon others in the galaxy: destruction of homes and families, even entire civilizations.

During her illustrious bounty hunting career, she was contacted by her initial saviour from Seradin Prime, Salin. To his misfortune, he had been caught in a Seradin experiment led by none other than the High Chancellor of the Seradin Senate. The Seradin had set up an orbiting lab above the planet, where Salin was shipwrecked due to damages to his ship. Here, he sent the message to Lissan, seeking any assistance she could offer. But by the time she arrived, the planet’s surface had been wiped clean.

With only Salin’s last words to work, with she located the space station. Abandoned and stripped down for parts, it was obvious that whoever had left the station had left in a hurry. Lissan managed to pull some of the data from the computers, and from the command deck she witnessed a visual feed.  It pictured the Chancellor watching over the experiment, and discussing with the scientists involved.  Lissan now knew the truth, knew who was behind the attacks on the planets.

As her anger raged, the computer screen started to flash, indicating survivors on the planet.  She knew what she had to do: she had to help those who remained on that scorched planet and bring them to safety. So they fled. Lissan took as many refugees as she could find, and brought them to the border of the galaxy’s uncharted zone. With her refugees, she founded the rebellion on a habitable planet.

At first the rebellion was small and mainly a refugee camp for those who had lost their homes to in the vile experiments that were decimating planets. All the evidence pointed to the Chancellor, but the galactic net was saturated with propaganda, saying that a Seradin by the name of Fate had been testing the weapon on these planets for his own research. His face was plastered all over the bounty boards. But Lissan’s findings proved otherwise, and as more and more refugees accumulated, more and more people learned the truth.  Seradin Prime had been conducting these awful experiments, and blaming the Fate, who was the Chancellor’s own son, for them.  As their numbers, and their anger, grew more and more, refugees decided to take up arms. And thus, the rebellion’s fleet was born.

But the rebellion would not survive by itself, with the ragtag crews and broken-down ships they had. They needed solid financial backing, and an army of capable recruits and ships. It was then that Lissan was leaked an important tidbit of information, and in it she saw the opportunity she needed to gain the support they required. It was sent to her anonymously, a classified warrant stating that Fate was actually wanted for the crime of theft from the Seradin government.  Fate had stolen important components of the most dangerous and vile weapon known to the galaxy, capable of destroying not only cities, but entire planets: the LSP. Lissan knew what she had to do: she must find this Fate and bring him to help the Rebellion.

But Lissan knew that tracking such an elusive prey would prove difficult, and that if the rebellion were to survive while she was away, she needed help. In a stroke of luck, Lissan was approached by a small group from the Galactic Freelance Police.  They spoke on behalf of Mr. P himself, telling her that she was to meet him on the CCS to discuss the potential for a mutually beneficial arrangement.

Mr. P and Lissan had struck a deal: that the rebellion would be secretly backed by the GFP and the Galactic Trade Commission, led by Mistress Commeroy.  Not only that, but Galactic Senate-appointed Mroxx Kingyssan was to go undercover for them, and supply the rebellion with political support. All of this would be conducted under the nose of the Seradin.

At this point, the Seradin had seized most major trade routes and taken control of a good portion of the GFP. But that didn’t deter Lissan or the rebellion; in fact, it strengthened them.  Lissan then departed to find Fate, and coax him into joining the rebellion. Her hunt led her right back to where she started when Fate came to the CCS to refuel and restock. With Fate now in her grasp and the backing of the Galactic Senate, the rebellion was prepared to begin their strike against the tyranny of the Seradin.

Humanity & Earth

This humble, mostly harmless little blue-green planet sits on the far end of the western spiral arm of the galaxy, scarcely aware that life in all of its abundance goes on without them in the far reaches of their precious Milky Way. Humanity is isolated, and without a means for interstellar travel, and this has led them to believe that they are the only sentient lifeforms in this region of space.

This couldn’t be farther from the truth, and their innocence will not protect them in the days to come. As the Seradin press, on they will eventually find earth. And even if the Seradin are quelled before that day, another species will eventually find this small planet.

But although quaint and underdeveloped, planet Earth has much to be appreciated. Its homosapien lifeforms coexist with a multitude of other species, seemingly endless in variety. But there is also much to be feared by humanity’s seemingly endless need for violence and war amongst each other. Recently, two world wars have decimated civilizations on the planet, and yet another conflict is on the verge of exploding into all-out nuclear fallout.

But still this planet lives on, its inhabitants soon to discover for themselves that they are not alone in this vast universe. Hopefully, that knowledge will humble their malicious and angry nature, and help them expand into a more enlightened species.
